Class VII Midsummer Night's Dream - 7B
97 St building - 97th Gym - 106We are excited to announce Class VII’s presentation of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Preparations for this joint English and speech class production have included lessons in rhythm, meter, character, physicalization, and voice. Students have enjoyed rehearsing to make their performance and characters fully come to life. All performances will take place in the 97th Street Gym.Class VIIA: Tuesday, February 28, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.Class VIIB: Wednesday, March 1, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.Class VIIC: Thursday, March 2, 9:00 - 10:00 a.m.Students may need reminders to continue memorizing their lines for their presentation. We also ask that your child arrive at school by 7:45 a.m. on the day of her performance wearing shorts under her uniform as well as a tank top to go underneath her costume. We appreciate your support and can’t wait for you to see the show! -
Early dismissal on March 2
To allow our faculty and staff to prepare for in-person conferences, dismissal will be at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2. There will not be a shuttle bus available at dismissal. After school activities will be canceled that day. -

March 2 & 3: Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

Appointments on Thursday, March 2 are in-person at the 97th Street campus; appointments on Friday, March 3 are virtual. Please note that appointments are six minutes in length followed by two minutes of travel time for families (and a quick breather for teachers!) It is important to be prompt for both conference format appointments.Parents often ask if they are required to book appointments with each of their child’s teachers. We encourage you to book appointments with core teachers and the rest is up to you! If your child’s advisor is also an academic teacher, you are welcome to select just one appointment slot. If you find that a teacher is fully booked, we recommend contacting him or her via email to find a time to touch base. The last day to sign up for Conferences is February 28. -

This spring, Upper Mid will continue to offer both in-person and virtual Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences. In-person conferences will take place after morning classes on March 2 from 1:00-6:00 p.m. at 116 East 97th Street. Virtual conferences will take place on March 3 from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Students are expected to attend in-person or virtual conferences with their parents. Conferences in Upper Mid will be timed, using the Meet The Teacher platform to schedule appointments. Conference sign-ups will be posted at a later date. -

International Women's Day
This Wednesday, March 8, the UMS will be celebrating International Women’s Day by honoring important women in history. Students are welcome to wear purple and to join in this annual tradition that began in 1911. -

Lenten Reconciliation Service
Our UMS Lenten reconciliation service will be held on Thursday, March 9. Catholic students will have a chance to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation during designated class slots throughout the morning. There will be an opportunity for students of other faiths to engage in the spirit of Lenten forgiveness as well. -
Class VI Parent Wellness Presentation
Parenting "emerging teenagers" can be daunting and confusing. Behaviors can be unpredictable. One minute your child wants to snuggle up next to you and the next she stomps away and slams a door. What do you do? Come join Upper Middle School Counselor, Courtney Birch, LMSW and Wellness Coordinator and Health Educator, Rosanna Barbalaco, '07, MS.Ed., Thursday, March 9 at 8:00 a.m. for a discussion about ways to strengthen your relationship with your child during this complicated time. Rosary: Friday, March 10 at 8:30 a.m.
All parents, caregivers, and grandparents are welcome to drop in to the Fifth Avenue Chapel at 8:30 a.m. next Friday, March 10, to pray the rosary. No experience is necessary and all materials, including rosaries, will be provided. We will also include the prayers of the Marymount community when we recite the rosary together. If there is a special intention you would like included, please complete this form. -
After-School Volunteer Opportunity
Support a Community Fridge right here in our neighborhood! Upper Mid students and faculty/staff are invited to join Ms. Farnham by making 500 SunButter and jelly sandwiches for our friends at John Haynes Holmes Towers. On the days listed below, we will gather in the Lion's Den and set up our sandwich-making assembly line. Once we have 500 sandwiches made, they will be delivered to the Community Fridge on 92nd Street and First Avenue. Mark your calendars and sign up for our remaining Sandwich Fridays by filling out the form on the day(s) your child will participate: -
“Fill the Fridge” Tuesdays
Join us in stocking our Community Fridge on 92nd Street and First Avenue by bringing any of the following items: canned food, fresh fruit and veggies, and pantry items. This isn’t a “food drive”, but it is a way to help out our neighbors. We will be collecting on the following Tuesdays: March 14, April 4, April 18, and May 16. Thank you for your support! -
Class VI Mass: Drop Off at Fifth Ave on March 14
Class VI will celebrate Class Mass at our Fifth Avenue campus (1026 Fifth Avenue) at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14. Please plan to drop your child off at the Fifth Avenue campus by 8:00 a.m. We hope you will join us for Mass as well. Students will travel with their teachers back to 97th Street at the end of Mass. -

No after school activities on March 16
Upper Mid after school activities are canceled on Thursday, March 16 including after school sports, study hall, after school math help, Set Tech, and Uptown Broadway due to the start of the Spring vacation. The 3:20 shuttle is available, but the 5:30 p.m. shuttle is canceled that day.
