Celebrating the Divine Nine

On Friday, February 23, Marymount presented Harambee, a bi-annual celebration of cultural awareness and pride during Black History Month. Meaning "all pull together" in Swahili, Harambee focused this year on the National Pan-Hellenic Council, a collaborative organization of nine historically African-American fraternities and sororities that are commonly referred to as the "Divine Nine." Thirty-four students from all four divisions participated in the event, weaving stories, song, and dance together in a joyous celebration of sisterhood and unity through diversity. The evening was an overwhelming success, with close to 300 parents, students, faculty, and alumnae attending the event.
