The Marymount Players presented Mary Poppins at the DiCapo Opera Theatre on April 16-18. They performed four sold-out performances in the 220 seat theatre. From January through April, 53 students from Marymount and Regis honed their skills in dancing, singing, acting, and technical work. The cast and crew were inspired by visits from two professional actresses, Maddy Trumble, who starred in Broadway's Wicked and Mary Poppins, and Lilla Crawford, who played Little Red Riding Hood in the Into the Woods film. The set/tech club participated in all aspects of backstage work, including lighting and sound design, set/props/costume transitions, and stage management. They took a bi-weekly class with a professional Broadway Stage Manager. For the first time, the Marymount Players also used projections to serve as a backdrop. Their director, Laura Pietropinto, choreographer, Jesse Factor, and Musical Director, Virginia Pike, taught them that practice and hard work in rehearsal pays off in performance -- and pay off it did! Bravo to the cast of Mary Poppins on an extraordinary run!
