Harlem STEAM Consortium

Marymount is pleased to announce the creation of the Harlem STEAM Consortium to broaden access to STEAM education for students in our local community. On Friday, February 8, twenty-one teachers from public, charter, and parochial schools near our 97th Street campus joined us for a professional development workshop to learn how to start or enhance a STEAM program in their schools. Facilitated by Marymount faculty and students, the workshop featured a design challenge to build an arcade game using littleBits. Ayah Bdeir, Founder and CEO of littleBits, visited with the teachers and watched them collaborate with Marymount students on the challenge.

Thanks to a generous corporate sponsor, each school received fifteen littleBits kits to take back to their schools and integrate into their curricula. As a follow-up to this initial workshop, members of the Consortium will be invited to participate in additional STEAM workshops at the Design, Do, Discover conference that Marymount hosts in June.
