Finding Inspiration at the WOW Summit

On November 21, 2020, students from Marymount and other independent schools around the globe gathered for the fifth annual WOW Summit, a forum on the empowerment of women. The mission of this event, run by Marymount’s Women in Our World (WOW) club, is “to educate [young people] about modern day intersectional feminism [to] instill in them the courage and determination to use their voices and advocate for equality in New York and the world.”

This year, the event was virtual which allowed international students to attend for the first time, including representatives from our sister schools in Los Angeles, South America, and Europe. The Summit attracted over 300 attendees for a full afternoon of inspiring speeches and engaging discussion. The event boasted many notable speakers, including Nobel Peace Laureate Leymah Gbowee, United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Division I athlete and LGBTQ+ advocate Emma Gee.
