Painting of a girl outside of Marymount

US Art Show 2021

“The academy is not a paradise, but learning is a place where paradise can be created.”
– bell hooks
This quote by bell hooks certainly defined our year of making art. The studio is truly a state of mind. Students in the Upper School found deep possibilities to create in all learning spaces: a bedroom, living room, kitchen, backyard, or the art studio at Marymount. Their efforts were not confined by a geographical location. Students were resourceful with concepts and often unconventional materials. They took risks, tolerated ambiguity, and even searched for contradictions. They succeeded in revising, persisting, and functioning with flexibility.
