New Research That Is Out of This World
Marymount is thrilled to announce that yet another Upper School student has had an article published in a scientific journal! As part of the Independent Science Research elective, Kyra B. ‘23 participated in an online astrometry seminar this fall and worked alongside a team of six (including college students and faculty) to measure the position angle and separation of a double star system. Kyra explains, “We were working to determine whether the stars were gravitationally bound or optical doubles. As a team, we accessed remote telescopes from Las Cumbres Observatory, analyzed the data using AstroImageJ software, and drafted a research paper, which was just published in the
Journal of Double Star Observations.” Congratulations to Kyra on this remarkable achievement!
