Kyra and the Journal of Double Star Observations

New Research That Is Out of This World

Marymount is thrilled to announce that yet another Upper School student has had an article published in a scientific journal! As part of the Independent Science Research elective, Kyra B. ‘23 participated in an online astrometry seminar this fall and worked alongside a team of six (including college students and faculty) to measure the position angle and separation of a double star system. Kyra explains, “We were working to determine whether the stars were gravitationally bound or optical doubles. As a team, we accessed remote telescopes from Las Cumbres Observatory, analyzed the data using AstroImageJ software, and drafted a research paper, which was just published in the Journal of Double Star Observations.” Congratulations to Kyra on this remarkable achievement!
