Marymount Bakery at the Met
After a unit in art class on the delicious dessert paintings by Wayne Thiebaud, Class V began to create their own dessert paintings. During one class, the girls started talking about one of their favorite shows, "Cake Boss," and how they love to make cakes. Art teacher Lesa Wang decided to turn their passion for making and baking into a project called the Marymount Bakery. In addition to the whimsical cakes created by Class V, Class III made ceramic petit fours and Class IV used candy to make artwork. All of these delectable delights were on display in the Carroll Classroom of the Met, garnering much praise from the Museum's staff as well!

Once the project was launched, Ms. Wang knew that their artwork really needed to be seen by professionals in the industry. She notes, "At Marymount, we believe it is important to bring 'the outside in' and having professional cake decorators and candy entrepreneurs come see the students' work was an extra special part of the event." Honored guests included: Sarah Pemberton from Cake Boss; Bobbie Lloyd, Magnolia Bakery's Chief Baking Officer; and Dylan Lauren, owner of Dylan's Candy Bar. Sprinkles and Magnolia sent scrumptuous cupcakes over for the event, and Class V parent reps provided aprons and fabric markers so the girls could get autographs from the special guests. It was a sweet ending to a wonderful project!
