Through curricular programs, guest speakers, and travel opportunities, Marymount students become engaged participants in an interconnected global community. Marymount is part of an international network of RSHM schools – 21 schools in 9 countries that share common goals, values, and vision – which offers opportunities for language immersions, semesters abroad, study and service programs, and sports festivals.
Travel & Exchange
Through mission-driven programs, students gain broader knowledge about world cultures, learn cross-cultural communication skills, and draw connections between themselves and people across the globe. Students choose from the following options:
Upper Middle School Travel Opportunities
In the fall of eighth grade, students embark on a bespoke travel experience to London that is uniquely crafted for their class. In addition to studying landmarks connected to their academic studies such as the Globe Theater and the Churchill War Rooms, students also spend a day with their peers at Marymount London, participating in workshops, performances, and collaborative activities.
Students in Classes VII and VIII are invited to participate in a sports festival where they engage in friendly competition against other RSHM network schools. Students have recently competed in Rome, Paris, London, and Portugal.
Upper School Travel Opportunities
Upper School students in Classes X-XII live with a host family and attend school in their target language during these three-week language or cultural immersion programs in Orleans, France; Bogotá, Medellín, and Barranquilla, Colombia; Cuernavaca, Mexico; and Rome, Italy.
Exchange students are also able to take a Global Programs Fieldwork course. This optional independent learning experience invites students to explore a topic of interest connected to their host country, collect meaningful data during their exchange, and create a final product that reflects their learning.
Class X students may spend a semester of their sophomore year at Marymount London’s international boarding school in Kingston, England.
Annual global journeys explore diverse cultures and global issues of concern. This year, Marymount will offer four global journeys:
- The Class IX biology curriculum comes to life in Barranquilla, Colombia, where students work with students at Marymount Barranquilla to investigate marine ecosystems hands on, contribute to restoration efforts, and explore the impacts of climate change.
- Upper School students will travel to Oxford University, where they will spend a week studying either literature, law, or science, fully immersing themselves in the life of a college student.
- Upper School students will experience Marymount's mission in action through transformative service learning in Zambia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Along the way, they will connect with RSHM-run schools and programs in the region, as well as with local partners.
- Members of the Model United Nations team will travel to the Netherlands to participate in an international conference at The Hague. They will have the chance to participate in mock committee sessions and work with delegates from around the world, including from the international network of Marymount schools.
Classroom-based learning opportunities
A Marymount education prepares students with the knowledge and skills required to be critical and responsible participants in our interconnected global community. Courses and co-curricular offerings across divisions are intentional in their content, scope, and sequence in order to prepare students with depth and breadth of knowledge about the world, its peoples, cultures, religions, and geographic contexts. The academic program focuses on developing the essential skills of perspective taking and respectful communication, while also cultivating in students a strong sense of empathy, preparing them to promote the common good locally, nationally, and internationally.
As students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, their opportunities for global engagement expand in both complexity and independence, beginning with classroom-based experiences for younger learners in Classes K-VI. These experiences include classroom partnerships, cultural exploration, and collaborative projects across the global network.
Students in Classes X-XII who enroll in the Global Exchange Progam are also able to take a Global Programs Fieldwork course. RSHM Global
RSHM Global is an innovative education initiative designed to connect and inspire students and teachers across the Global Network of RSHM Schools. Rooted in the values and mission of the RSHM, the program builds a dynamic global learning community through forward-thinking, flexible courses and collaborative experiences. For students in Classes X-XII, asynchronous course offerings include Global Entrepreneurship, Creativity & AI, Videography, and App Design with Playlab.ai. Educators may choose from a range of micro-courses on global education, the Sustainable Development Goals, and cultivating a creative mindset. In addition, both students and educators may participate in interactive webinars exploring timely global education themes. Those who complete three courses will earn the RSHM Global Certificate, recognizing their commitment to global learning.
