This week, Class I welcomed Upper School students who are going to Zambia this spring break to visit the RSHM ministries! They explained what they would see and do in the area and agreed to bring “Flat Stella” along on all their adventures 🌍

Class I students recently visited the NY Transit Museum as part of their transportation unit in social studies! They traveled back in time to explore subway cars of the past and how mass transit contributed to the growth and expansion of our city 🚊🚇

A big thank you to the 75 members of the #marymountny community who came out this weekend to sort 12,000 pounds of produce with @grassrootsgroceryny! Alexandra H. ’26 recently completed her first cyanotype photography installation, “Our Kitchen Staff,” honoring the #marymountny team members who sustain daily school life. This interdisciplinary project, bridging art and chemical engineering, explores the power of creative expression to recognize and celebrate community. Installed at Upper Campus as a site-specific work, the series invites viewers to pause and reflect on often-unseen contributions. Alexandra is now developing a second series featuring staff members in the technology and business offices, continuing her thoughtful exploration of art as connection and gratitude. 💙🙏👏

Last fall, #marymountny Dance Teacher Lily Hickey served as an artist in residence @marymountlondon. She introduced their students to liturgical dance, teaching their Class VIII the same choreography that our Class V students learned. This video showcases this special collaboration of movement and music as students share a joyful expression of faith and creativity. Together, they celebrate connection, community, and the global RSHM spirit that unites us across campuses. 💙🌎🙏👯‍♀️

Class IX Biology students continued their study of DNA 🧬 by completing a restriction enzyme digest, comparing their results with bioinformatics predictions they made. 🥼🧪

Class IV students brought American history 🇺🇸 to life last week as they shared the stories of famous figures in their interdisciplinary study of the Revolutionary War! ❤️🤍💙

Upper Mid continued its tradition of celebrating Mardi Gras early last week! UMS French classes teamed up with art teacher Ms. McCormick and creative technology teacher Mr. Burker to create Mardi Gras masks and floats and to code a festive visualization using Turtle Art. From painting to coding, and of course, delicious king cake, it was a celebration filled with learning and fun! 💜💛💚

Happy Lunar New Year! Lower Mid students ushered in the year of the fire horse 🐎 with an assembly that featured a lion 🐲 dance and a presentation by #marymountny parents on the holiday and beloved family traditions. The celebrations continue this week with red envelope 🧧 stamping and a special lunch. Thank you to all the parents who made this assembly so wonderful!

Six Upper School students traveled to The Hague to represent Marymount at THIMUN, an international Model UN conference now in its 58th year. Over five days, delegates engaged in debate with peers from around the world and connected with students from Marymount Rome and Marymount London. The group also spent time exploring Amsterdam, making it a memorable academic and cultural experience 🌎

Class VI visited the RSHM Convent in Tarrytown yesterday for a day of reflection! They spent time visiting with the sisters and gaining a deeper understanding of the mission and values that guide all that we do at #marymountny 💙🙏

Congratulations to Kitty J. ‘29 on her outstanding performance in the English Speaking Union’s Shakespeare Competition Semifinals yesterday! 👏🙌 She performed a sonnet and a monologue from Richard III 🎭 and was selected to advance to the New York City Finals on February 24. Go get ‘em Kitty!! 💙💪

Class VIII students enjoyed the culmination of their Romeo and Juliet collaboration with @saintdavidsnyc by performing short scenes in our Upper Campus theater. Students worked with professional teaching artists on stage combat techniques, the rhythm of iambic pentameter, and the power of gesture and dance in the context of Shakespeare work. Bravo to all! 🎭👏

Congratulations to @mmtmocktrial on their first round victory over Global Learning Collaborative! 👏💪 This year’s case involves a defendant charged with petit larceny and resisting arrest based on allegations by a BBQ restaurant owner that the defendant stole used cooking oil to sell to an organized crime syndicate. On to the next round!

Meet Sydney Wilcenski, a new physical education teacher at the Upper Campus! Ms. Wilcenski grew up in New Jersey and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend undergrad at Loyola University Maryland and graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught elementary general and special education in Maryland before moving to NYC. In her free time, you can find her playing volleyball 🏐 or crafting 🧶 She also loves a good book 📚 and is always open to recommendations! Ms. Wilcenski is elated to be joining the #marymountny team and can’t wait to work with all of the kids! A warm welcome to Ms. Wilcenski! 💙🦁💙

Meet Yoshiko Maruiwa, the new art teacher for Classes K-II! She is originally from Japan 🇯🇵 and moved to the US to pursue her passion for art education. She earned degrees from Sophia University in Tokyo, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. With extensive experience teaching art in museums, communities, and schools, Ms. Maruiwa is excited to bring joy, creativity, and expertise to her new role. Outside of teaching, she enjoys weaving and sewing 🪡 traveling ✈️ visiting museums 🖼️ animals 🐶 beaches 🏖️ and, most of all, cooking 🧑‍🍳 and sharing meals with her family and friends. Ellie Burns joins the #marymountny community teaching Contemporary World History as well as Class X Global History. She was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Georgia and attended Haverford College for undergrad. Ms. Burns majored in history and religion and played varsity soccer ⚽️ before returning to Georgia to teach high school history. She then came to New York for her master’s at Teachers College at Columbia University and loved New York so much she decided to stay! Ms. Burns is excited to become part of both the Upper Mid and Upper School faculty. In her free time, you can find Ms. Burns running 🏃‍♀️ through New York, reading 📖 in Central Park, or trying a new coffee ☕️ shop. A warm welcome to Ms. Burns! 💙🦁💙

Mrs. Frommert brings 24 years of experience teaching secondary math in both international schools and an all-girls Catholic school in Houston. Her love for educational collaboration and leadership extends beyond the classroom, serving as an administrator and as a published author in education. In August, Mrs. Frommert moved to NYC with her husband, daughter, and their beloved Sheltie dog. As a new Marymount parent, she appreciates the warm welcome from the #marymountny community. Seven #marymountny Upper Schoolers joined students from @marymount.cuernavaca and @marymountla for the first RSHM Social Service Week last month in Mexico. They engaged in community service initiatives including supporting kids at a children’s home and at an orphanage, serving breakfast at a local St. Vincent de Paul center, and spending time with retired nuns at an elder care facility. This global initiative allowed our students to truly live out the RSHM mission “that all may have life, and have it to the full.” #careservelead

This year #marymountny became one of the first schools to offer the Atherton Award in recognition of entrepreneurial spirit in young women 🏆 Brianna F. ‘25 was named the winner for her innovative ideas to streamline services and improve revenue for the MTA! Olivia W. ‘26 and Marcella C-R. ‘26 were also recognized as finalists for the award. All three will receive grants and mentorship as they develop their ideas further. Lower School was delighted to welcome author and illustrator @studioroxas yesterday! She helped Kindergarten draw her Rhino character from her book Let Me Finish! Classes I-II worked on mini zines, similar to the zine she made that ended up sparking her Team Pom series. An inspiring day for our budding authors! 📚📖

👏👏👏 to two recent @mmtalumnae who were recognized by @cspanyc for their pieces featured in the 2023 Muse, Marymount’s literary magazine! Maggie O’Connor ‘23 was awarded second place in the humor category for “Out of this World” and Kyra Bettwy ‘23 received a certificate of merit in the humor category for “An Unedited Transcript of the Macy’s Marketing Day Parade”. Congratulations to our talented writers! 🙌📝

Congratulations to the 11 Class VII students who were recognized for their outstanding work in the Hudson Data Jam! They analyzed data from the Hudson River and its watershed and creatively communicated their findings in a data-based story. 👏🙌🏆

🇬🇧 Oxford Spring Seminar! 🇬🇧 A group of Upper School students spent a week of spring break learning from top Oxford University professors in a cohort of their choosing: literature and the arts 🎭📕 law and human rights 👩‍⚖️⚖️ or science and the future. 👩‍🔬💻 #globaled #globalprograms

We love when #marymountny families share their faith and traditions! This week Class II students learned all about Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr. As an act of kindness, students created blessing bags to donate to those in need. Eid Mubarak to all who celebrate!

Eight Upper School student-athletes traveled to Medellin over break to participate in a sports festival with other RSHM schools. In addition to friendly competition in 🏐⚽️🏀, students spent time connecting with their global peers from @istitutomarymount @marymountrome @marymountbarranquilla @marymountbogota and @marymountschoolmedellin. It was a wonderful experience for all! 🌎💙 #globaled #rshmglobalnetwork

Congratulations to Rose S. ‘30 (🥉 in 200IM) and Skyler M. ‘30 (🥉 in 100Fly, 🥉 in 200Free relay, 🥈 in 400Free relay) for their amazing performances at the 2024 MR Short Course Junior Mets Championship last weekend! Rose and Skyler will also be competing at the end of March at the esteemed Eastern Zones Championships, one of four swimming zones in USA. Go girls! 🏊‍♂️💪👏

What a joy it was to watch Class VII students don Elizabethan garb and recite the words of Shakespeare in their fabulous productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream last week! 🎭

We love to see our @mmtalumnae continue their lifelong love of learning with a master class in financial literacy! Taught by beloved Upper School teacher Dr. Cornelis, all alum taking this class will receive a Bloomberg Market Concepts certification upon completion of the course. 📈💪👏
