Alexandra H. โ26 recently completed her first cyanotype photography installation, โOur Kitchen Staff,โ honoring the #marymountny team members who sustain daily school life. This interdisciplinary project, bridging art and chemical engineering, explores the power of creative expression to recognize and celebrate community. Installed at Upper Campus as a site-specific work, the series invites viewers to pause and reflect on often-unseen contributions. Alexandra is now developing a second series featuring staff members in the technology and business offices, continuing her thoughtful exploration of art as connection and gratitude. ๐๐๐

Last fall, #marymountny Dance Teacher Lily Hickey served as an artist in residence @marymountlondon. She introduced their students to liturgical dance, teaching their Class VIII the same choreography that our Class V students learned. This video showcases this special collaboration of movement and music as students share a joyful expression of faith and creativity. Upper Mid continued its tradition of celebrating Mardi Gras early last week! UMS French classes teamed up with art teacher Ms. McCormick and creative technology teacher Mr. Burker to create Mardi Gras masks and floats and to code a festive visualization using Turtle Art. Over five days, delegates engaged in debate with peers from around the world and connected with students from Marymount Rome and Marymount London. Meet Sydney Wilcenski, a new physical education teacher at the Upper Campus! Ms. Wilcenski grew up in New Jersey and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend undergrad at Loyola University Maryland and graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught elementary general and special education in Maryland before moving to NYC. In her free time, you can find her playing volleyball ๐ or crafting ๐งถ She also loves a good book ๐ and is always open to recommendations! Meet Yoshiko Maruiwa, the new art teacher for Classes K-II! She is originally from Japan ๐ฏ๐ต and moved to the US to pursue her passion for art education. She earned degrees from Sophia University in Tokyo, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. With extensive experience teaching art in museums, communities, and schools, Ms. Maruiwa is excited to bring joy, creativity, and expertise to her new role. Outside of teaching, she enjoys weaving and sewing ๐ชก traveling โ๏ธ visiting museums ๐ผ๏ธ animals ๐ถ beaches ๐๏ธ and, most of all, cooking ๐งโ๐ณ and sharing meals with her family and friends. Ellie Burns joins the #marymountny community teaching Contemporary World History as well as Class X Global History. She was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Georgia and attended Haverford College for undergrad. Ms. Burns majored in history and religion and played varsity soccer โฝ๏ธ before returning to Georgia to teach high school history. She then came to New York for her masterโs at Teachers College at Columbia University and loved New York so much she decided to stay! Ms. Burns is excited to become part of both the Upper Mid and Upper School faculty. Seven #marymountny Upper Schoolers joined students from @marymount.cuernavaca and @marymountla for the first RSHM Social Service Week last month in Mexico. They engaged in community service initiatives including supporting kids at a childrenโs home and at an orphanage, serving breakfast at a local St. Vincent de Paul center, and spending time with retired nuns at an elder care facility. This global initiative allowed our students to truly live out the RSHM mission โthat all may have life, and have it to the full.โ #careservelead

Lower School was delighted to welcome author and illustrator @studioroxas yesterday! She helped Kindergarten draw her Rhino character from her book Let Me Finish! Classes I-II worked on mini zines, similar to the zine she made that ended up sparking her Team Pom series. An inspiring day for our budding authors! ๐๐

Eight Upper School student-athletes traveled to Medellin over break to participate in a sports festival with other RSHM schools.
