Ali Slavin joins Marymount as an Upper Middle School Learning Specialist, working with students in Classes VI-VIII. She comes to Marymount from Winston Preparatory School, where she spent twelve years supporting students with language-based learning differences and executive functioning profiles as a Focus Teacher, Testing Coordinator, and College Board SSD Coordinator. Ms. Slavin holds an M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Teachers College, Columbia University, and she is a licensed speech-language pathologist. Outside of school, she is a new-ish mom to her one-year-old daughter, Sloane, and she enjoys taking Pilates, reading ๐ and needlepointing ๐ชก Ms. Slavin is looking forward to getting to know the Upper Middle School students and their families as they grow into their potential this year. Originally from Manhasset, New York, Ms. Dunphy recently graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelorโs degree in Elementary Education. Meet Amanda Volk, a new associate teacher in Class IB. Originally from Long Island, Ms. Volk earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Lehigh University and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Education in Childhood Education at Hunter College. Before coming to Marymount, she spent five summers at Camp Echo Lake, where she served as a Camper Specialist, Group Leader, and Head Counselor, working with children ages 10โ16, where she found joy in helping children build confidence, friendships, and lifelong memories. Meet Serena Strecker Rolock, a new history teacher in the Upper School, where she will be teaching Classes X-XI. Originally from Missouri, Dr. Strecker Rolock completed her bachelorโs in Interdisciplinary Studies in the Humanities at the University of Chicago and her Ph.D. in History at Yale University. While at Yale, she discovered a love for teaching students how to think like historians. She has taught subjects ranging from the Catholic intellectual tradition to food history and the history of climate science. Meet Cate Pfau, a new associate teacher in Kindergarten-B! Originally from Madison, Wisconsin, Ms. Pfau graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 2025 with degrees in Political Science and Peace and Conflict Studies, and a minor in Education. This past year, she taught high school English in a rural town in the Czech Republic ๐จ๐ฟ through the Fulbright Program. She loves creating meaningful classroom experiences and is excited to continue teaching at Marymount! Following in the footsteps of renowned artists, they visited world-class museums ๐ผ๏ธ admired the newly restored Notre-Dame Cathedral โ๏ธ wandered the historic streets of Arles, and experienced some of Franceโs most iconic landmarks. Throughout the journey, students engaged in thoughtful discussions about the ways art and culture reflect society and continue to shape our understanding of the world.

Meet Sydney Wilcenski, a new physical education teacher at the Upper Campus! Ms. Wilcenski grew up in New Jersey and moved to Baltimore, Maryland, to attend undergrad at Loyola University Maryland and graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania. She taught elementary general and special education in Maryland before moving to NYC. Meet Yoshiko Maruiwa, the new art teacher for Classes K-II! She is originally from Japan ๐ฏ๐ต and moved to the US to pursue her passion for art education. She earned degrees from Sophia University in Tokyo, Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and Teachers College, Columbia University in New York. With extensive experience teaching art in museums, communities, and schools, Ms. Maruiwa is excited to bring joy, creativity, and expertise to her new role. Outside of teaching, she enjoys weaving and sewing ๐ชก traveling โ๏ธ visiting museums ๐ผ๏ธ animals ๐ถ beaches ๐๏ธ and, most of all, cooking ๐งโ๐ณ and sharing meals with her family and friends. Ellie Burns joins the #marymountny community teaching Contemporary World History as well as Class X Global History. She was born in Pennsylvania but grew up in Georgia and attended Haverford College for undergrad. Ms. Burns majored in history and religion and played varsity soccer โฝ๏ธ before returning to Georgia to teach high school history. She then came to New York for her masterโs at Teachers College at Columbia University and loved New York so much she decided to stay! Ms. Burns is excited to become part of both the Upper Mid and Upper School faculty. Seven #marymountny Upper Schoolers joined students from @marymount.cuernavaca and @marymountla for the first RSHM Social Service Week last month in Mexico. They engaged in community service initiatives including supporting kids at a childrenโs home and at an orphanage, serving breakfast at a local St. Vincent de Paul center, and spending time with retired nuns at an elder care facility. This global initiative allowed our students to truly live out the RSHM mission โthat all may have life, and have it to the full.โ #careservelead
